The Spanish Region of Murcia has left excellent examples in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of what its fertile and prosperous fields have to offer. Hand in hand with Hebany Group, it has starred in outstanding presentations, sponsored by the Governing Council of the Region, which have taken its fruits and vegetables, all of the highest quality, to large and prestigious premium food supply chains in the Middle East.
In the case of the emirate of Dubai, the recipients of the promotions of the Murcian orchard products have been ‘Threes Efficiency‘, ‘Fresh To Door’, ‘Nahda Egypt‘, ‘Kavian Fharma‘ and ‘F.O.’, and as far as Sharjah is concerned, the company ‘EFAS’. The result of these actions has been that Murcia’s agri-food proposal has been at the forefront and in full view of everyone in a country where its residents are decidedly committed to quality.
The presentation in Dubai of Murcian fruits and vegetables was carried out by Víctor Manuel Martínez Muñoz, secretary general of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment, and María Elena García Redón, head of the Agri-food Promotion Service in the Region. Both put on the table in detail the qualities that make the products unique.

The most outstanding fruits of Murcia are lemons, stone grapefruits, peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, table grapes and PDO Jumilla pear. In the case of vegetables, peppers, lettuce, broccoli, artichokes, tomatoes and celery stand out. These products are favoured by a Mediterranean climate with mild and moderate rainfall that, fused with the orchard, the best land that can be found, brings out real treasures.
To this must be added, on the one hand, that the Region of Murcia has been developing for more than 100 years an agricultural industry based on quality and environmental balance with a high percentage of drip irrigation and, on the other, the outstanding investment in R+D+i to guarantee the viability of the new crops planted and the profitability of the traditional ones.
CONSTANTLY GROWING
In the field of vegetables, Murcia increased its production volume by 1.6% in 2021, which meant a total of 5.7 million tonnes. Likewise, the value of production rose by 9% to reach 6,576 million euros. The star vegetable, the most sold abroad, was peppers.
Fruit grew by 3% in volume and 6% in value. The totals were 7.6 million tonnes and 9,104 million euros. And what was most popular in the markets were strawberries, peaches and nectarines.
In the section on fresh fruit and vegetable exports, the increase recorded in 2021 stood at 7.4% of the value, which raised the overall figure to 15,689 million euros, and by 2.6% in terms of volume, which reached 13.4 million tonnes. Specifically, 94% of exports were destined for Europe and the United Kingdom.
Another of the events held by the Region of Murcia in the United Arab Emirates took place at Dukes the Palm Hotel, located on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. There, one of the most emblematic places in the emirate, the presentation of products from the companies ‘AgroMark‘, represented by Nacho Doménech, and ‘ApoExpa‘, represented by Rafael Molina, was located.
Both business representatives presented the variety and quality of their products to professionals in the Middle East so that more consumers can enjoy the qualities of these highly appreciated Mediterranean fresh products.
